Based between Melbourne and New York, Maripossa was founded by self-taught jeweller Lauren Besser in Australia in 2010. Drawing on a background in psychology and fashion design, Lauren is guided by experimentation and instinct. Playful experimentation is evident with each evolving collection wherein designs continue to provoke curiosity and dialogue between wearer and observer. Focusing on notions of contradiction and opposition, coarse metals are transformed into bespoke fabric-like jewellery fusing sterling silver and fine chains, and upcycling solid gold heirlooms. By interspersing contrasting mediums each piece has its own distinct sense of aesthetic malleability. Imagination and introspection are embedded into the jewellery and accompanying campaign imagery, a testament to the artist's creative direction and fresh interpretation for each collection. Organic rings and cuffs are formed utilising the process of lost wax casting and intricately woven styles are individually oxidized or dip-dyed, ensuring the exclusivity of each piece. Each piece is designed and made by hand.
